Delhi Airport Drone Scare: MHA plans to control drones usage
Following the Delhi IGI Airport drone scare, the Union Home Ministry wants a law to control/prevent the misuse of drones, mainly around the country's airports. Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba recently discussed the draft policy and a set of Standard Operating Protocols framed by the Delhi Police. At least 6-7 pilots get distracted due to various flying objects near Delhi's airport, every month.
DU colleges governing councils: Kejriwal govt sends lists of names
The ongoing Delhi Government-Delhi University tussle over the constitution of governing councils in 28 Delhi University colleges became more complicated. Rejecting the DU's names list for governing bodies' members, CM Arvind Kejriwal's government dispatched a fresh list to the university. Delhi Government wants the councils to be "duly constituted"; it stopped funding the 28 colleges in July for not forming the governing bodies.
Long power cuts by state-run discom DHBVN
Power outages and improper billing by the state-run Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) have been worrying Gurgaon residents. Six-hour long power cuts in several areas, including sectors 17, 56, 45, 7, and New Palam Vihar, were reported; the frequency of power cuts in the city has gone up. Additionally, several residents, who received incorrect, inflated electricity bills, are still awaiting revised ones.
Delhi: Five AIIMS students suspended for ragging
Delhi's AIIMS has suspended five medical students allegedly for ragging freshers. A few freshers have complained to the administration against their fifth semester seniors; many of them were ragged in the hostel. The suspended ones wouldn't be allowed to attend the classes for three months.
Delhi Tihar Jail drug smuggling bid foiled
An alert prison van driver foiled an unidentified duo's plan to smuggle cigarettes and marijuana into Delhi's Tihar jail. The duo, on a bike, followed the van for an hour to tie a contraband packet to the vehicle's grill. Noticing them, the driver stopped the van causing the bike to fall. However, the duo escaped leaving behind the bike; a case was registered.
Delhi Police release crime figures, crime against women declines
According to Delhi Police figures, the crime against women in Delhi has witnessed a decline this year until 15 August compared to last year. 1,335 rape cases and 2,138 molestation cases were filed this year compared to 1,426 and 2,738 cases, respectively, in 2016. Murder cases have also decreased to 305 from 325 in 2016. Fatal road accidents dropped from 976 to 857.
