Carrying more than 15 kgs? You can't board Delhi Metro
Delhi Metro commuters heading towards airport or railway station with an oversized baggage may soon be disappointed. According to a new rule by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the commuters carrying oversized baggage or more than 15 kgs luggage would be barred from traveling in Delhi Metro. This rule will be implemented in at least 20 metro stations, from this March. Here's more.
Installation of steel frames won't allow oversized baggage
The DMRC recently installed steel frames at the X-ray baggage machines in five metro stations: Barakhamba Road, Anand Vihar, Chandni Chowk, Kashmere Gate and Shahdara. From March, 15 stations - Adarsh Nagar, Azadpur, Badarpur, Botanical Garden, Chawri Bazar, Dilshad Garden, Govindpuri, HUDA City Centre, Inderlok, Karol Bagh, Lal Quila, Nangloi, R K Ashram Marg, Rithala and New Delhi will bar the oversized baggage.
The metal frames installed in X-ray baggage screening machine
According to a report, the installed U-shaped metal frames in front of the X-ray baggage screening machines don't allow the oversized baggage in the machine. The DMRC stated, "Passengers can carry maximum luggage limit of length 60 cm, width 45 cm and height 25 cm."
Heavy, oversized bags are 'security scare'
Even though the rule has been there from the beginning, the DMRC will strongly implement this measure now as heavy and oversized bags lead to problems during the security check. A security official said, "At big and interchange stations, the baggage line is so engaged that it is very hard to concentrate on all contents of a bag. This is a possible security scare."
