Delhi Metro- Women commandos will secure 90 stations
Women commandos will be deployed on 90 new Delhi Metro stations set open in the course of one year as part of its Phase-III expansion. According to officials, the women have undergone thorough tactical and endurance training which will not only help them to boost security for female commuters but also tackle threats like terrorism. MCG warns residents against wasting water, connections could be cut
The residents of Gurugram have been issued an advisory letter from the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) warning them against wasting water. If the residents waste drinking water, their connections will be cut. This advisory will remain in force till 30th June. Since two months, Gurugram has already been dealing with water crisis arising out of shifting of pipelines, maintenance, etc.
Complaints about civic issues rose sharply in 2016
According to newly-released data, complaints regarding civic issues and water supply in Delhi showed a substantial increase in 2016. The data was analyzed using information from Right to Information (RTI) queries, municipal corporations and the Delhi Assembly. The report states that from 2015 to 2016, complaints about civic issues increased by 27%. Complaints about water supply, pollution, too increased by 51% and 52% respectively.
Government finally implements Land Pooling Policy
Two years after the policy was passed by the Union Government, the Delhi Development Authority will execute the Land Pooling Policy in 95 urban villages. This will further pave way for the construction of lakhs of units of affordable housing. According to the policy, parts of land can be pooled together and handed over to the DDA to ensure development of basic services.
No improvements in water supply situation
Water crisis in Delhi continued throughout 18th May, as Haryana failed to release the promised 200 cusecs of water. According to Delhi Jal Board officials, only 125 cusecs of water was released into the Yamuna river, which also turned dry as there has been no water supply since the last 10 days. Areas like Azadpur, Jahangirpuri, Timarpur, Mukherjee Nagar, Rajouri Garden etc. were affected.
Govindpuri- Class 9 student killed by 2 friends
A Class 9 student was allegedly murdered by two of his friends after they argued on a frivolous issue. The victim was allegedly stabbed repeatedly on his head with a blunt object. His body was dumped in a park in Southeast Delhi's Govindpuri. The police registered a case of murder and detained a juvenile for questioning.
