Speeding BMW runs over man in West Delhi, driver arrested
A 36-year-old man died when his two-wheeler was reportedly knocked over by a speeding BMW car near Moti Bagh Metro Station in West Delhi in the early hours of Sunday, PTI reported. Ajay Gupta, a grocery shop owner, was on his way home when he was killed. According to the police, the accused woman driver, a resident of Delhi's Ashok Vihar, has been arrested.
Speeding car first hit generator, then victim
The said BMW car was driven by a 28-year-old Ashok Vihar resident and architect, the police added. She was allegedly speeding when she hit a generator and then Gupta, injuring him critically. The police said the accused was returning from a party when the accident took place. The woman has been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
Victim succumbed to injuries at ESI Hospital
The accident reportedly took place in the early hours of Sunday near the Moti Nagar flyover. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Ghanshyam Bansal, neither the offending vehicle's driver nor the victim was found at the scene. Gupta was shifted to ABG Hospital by the driver. His relatives then admitted him to ESI Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries.
Accused driver was returning from party: Police
The police stated they couldn't record the victim's statement. However, preliminary investigation revealed he was leaving the hospital after taking medicines while the woman driver was returning from a party. Gupta's family also reportedly told the police that he had left home to get medicines for himself. He is survived by his wife and two children, who live in Delhi's Basai Darapur.
Police charged accused driver under these IPC sections
The police have booked the accused driver with violating sections 279 (rash driving or riding in a public way) and 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). IPC Section 304A (causing death by negligence) was also added afterward. Meanwhile, Gupta's body was sent to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for an autopsy.
Similar incident took place on Saturday
According to The Times of India, another similar accident occurred on Saturday, killing 30-year-old doctor Yaseen, a resident of Tughlakabad Extension in Delhi's Okhla. His scooter was allegedly hit by an RTV near the Crown Plaza traffic signal, badly wounding him. On Sunday, he died as a result of his injuries. The accused driver was eventually arrested by the police with CCTV footage's help.
