Delhi: Man, who could dismantle a car in 1-hr, arrested
A seasoned vehicle lifter, who could dismantle a car within an hour, was recently nabbed in Dwarka, while trying to escape in a stolen Volkswagen Polo. Zeeshan Pahwa, a native of Meerut, is accused in around 25 cases and has been declared a proclaimed offender by several courts, cops said. He was arrested after a gang of notorious thieves, recently apprehended, revealed his name.
Scrap prices depended on vehicle condition and model
Zeeshan operated from his own garage that he opened in Meerut four years ago. His modus operandi was simple. He used to give contracts and duplicate keys to several Delhi-based gangs, who supplied him with stolen vehicles from Delhi, Meerut, Gurgaon and Noida. He would then dismantle the vehicle and sold its parts in Sotiganj market in Meerut.
A bit about Sotiganj: North India's largest automobile scrap market
Sotiganj is the largest automobile scrap market in North India. One can find spare parts of any car, right from Maruti 800 to Rolls Royce. What's more, one can even buy a Jeep, previously used by Army personnel, for as low as Rs. 30,000!
Zeeshan claims to have sold thousands till date
Zeeshan said he has sold thousands of vehicles till date. Initially, he used to receive smaller cars, but over the years, he'd give contracts only for bigger cars like Toyota Fortuners and Innovas. His dismantling speed comes from the experience he gained after working in several garages for eight years. A stolen XUV, a Verna and a Polo have been seized from his 'factory'.
