    What's the story

In a consumer-friendly step, Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDL) has introduced meter-reading service via WhatsApp.

Through this, consumers would be able to send the meter-reading to the dedicated WhatsApp number, 9667558009.

This system was introduced to help the company get the reading, even when the consumer is not present at home or the premises where the meter is kept, is locked.

    Details

'No more than two provisional bills will be generated'

Tata Power-DDL released a press notice dated June 21, which said that such readings will, however, be considered as 'Consumer Brought Reading' and treated as provisional.

The bills generated on the basis of the 'Consumer Brought (CB) Reading', will also have 'CB Remark' written on top.

"No more than two provisional bills will be generated on the CB remark," said the notice.

    Why?

Based on consumers' inputs, this move was introduced

Further, the 3rd bill would require a physical meter reading by an official from the site, said the notice.

"The service has been brought keeping in view the consumer inputs of meter not being read due to locking of premises on various occasions," said Sanjay Banga, CEO, Tata Power-DDL.

In January, Tata Power-DDL had introduced WhatsApp service on 9958770080 to report power theft.
