Amarnath attack: Delhi on high alert, Kanwarias to get security
Post terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi has been put on high alert with special security cover for Kanwar Yatra. Several devotees will pursue the annual pilgrimage on foot from Haridwar and will pass Delhi till July 21. Heavy rains lash Delhi, water logging spells chaos for city
Delhiites got an early respite from humid weather after heavy rains lashed the capital which led to dip in mercury levels accompanied with water logging and traffic snarls. According to MET department, a trough - an elongated low pressure area - hovering near the Himalayan foothills came closer to Delhi-NCR sooner than expected and triggered rain. The rainfall is expected to continue till Thursday.
South Delhi: 53-year-old woman murdered for resisting robbery
Sarita Jain was tied, thrashed and strangulated to death when she tried to stop a robbery at her residence in Amar Colony. According to police, three men barged into her house when Jain was home along with her two servants and ransacked the house. One of the servants facilitated their entry. Her body and other tied-up servant were found by Jain's son.
Police trace Lamborghini's driver involved in Noida Expressway accident
Police traced the driver of white Lamborghini involved in fatal accident on Noida Expressway, which claimed one life. Police said, "The CCTV footage makes it clear that the driver of the Swift Dzire was at fault in taking a sudden left turn. The driver of the Lamborghini is pleading not guilty. However, he is a party to the accident."
19 prisoners on death row, but Tihar has no hangman
India's largest prison Tihar jail does not have a single hangman. The jail has even received letters from citizens offering to be executioners. As per jail rules, any person who is mentally stable is eligible to become an executor. However, law officer Sunil Gupta who worked in Tihar said, "A prison is a place for reform. Having an executioner kind of kills the purpose."
Fine for illegal parking increased to Rs. 1000/day
In a bid to decongest roads, people will have to cough up a fine of Rs. 100/hour which can go up to Rs. 1000/day for illegal parking in areas under the North Delhi Municipal Corporation. This is part of a pilot project to be launched in Model Town and Kamla Nagar. If it succeeds, the east and south civic agencies will adopt it too.
Cops crack down gangster Mahal's role in two murders
The Gurugram police cracked down Delhi-based gangster Manjeet Mahal's role in two murders being probed by them. According to police, the bullets from the victim's bodies matched with weapons belonging to Mahal's gang members. The police had earlier suspected that Mahal, who is in Bhondsi jail at present, planned the murders. The police said that Mahal had arranged the weapons for his shooters.
