New Delhi station's Ajmeri gate side entrance to get makeover
The Ajmeri Gate side entrance to New Delhi Railway Station's will soon get a makeover. A new 30m-wide road from Bhavbhuti Marg will be opened directly at the entrance gate of the station from September this year. The plan for the hassle-free entrance has been made after the Northern Railways decided to de-clog the street that is usually blocked by autorickshaws and taxis.
Plan requires shifting of several buildings: Report
The makeover plan involves shifting of many buildings including the DCP's office, 16 railway staff quarters and sub-station to other locations. The plan also requires space for a wider entrance, so the extra land has been acquired from Delhi Metro and plot allotted to DMRC. The approval for the shifting of buildings has already been taken and the construction work would begin by March.
Plan will also boost metro connectivity to the railway station
Delhi Divisional railway manager R N Singh said that this unique project will not only make access to the railway station easier but also boost connectivity to the metro station. "To reduce congestion due to autos and taxis, we have decided to move them to a designated spot and ample space for parking has also been made in the design," he added.
