Delhi holi: 1,918 booked for drunk driving; 9,300 booked overall
Delhi police's increased security and scrutiny on the day of Holi brought results, apparently. Over all, 9, 300 people were booked for violating traffic rules. This accounts for people caught for drunk driving, not wearing helmets, tripling or triple riding on bikes and scooters and not following other traffic rules, among others. No untoward incident was reported due to beefed up security, cops said.
1,164 booked for triple-riding, 1918 for drunk driving
A senior cop said that 1,918 cases were registered for drunken driving and among those, 608 cases were reported from areas in South Delhi like Saket, Hauz Khas, Mehrauli, etc. Cases of people not wearing helmets were the maximum at 4,634 while 1,164 were fined or triple-riding on bikes and scooters. More than 1,500 were booked for other traffic violations, the senior officer added.
Special teams were deployed and were given alcometers
"Any kind of hooliganism, drunk driving or forcefully applying color will be dealt with strictly. Pickets will be there at strategic points," Dependra Pathak, Delhi Police PRO, had said a day ahead of holi. The security was beefed up and holi largely remained peaceful, the senior officer added. Special patrolling teams were deployed and were given breath analyzers.
