Gurugram to get UN lab focusing on women entrepreneurs
The city of Gurugram is all set to get a United Nations (UN) technology innovation laboratory that will focus on promoting women entrepreneurship in the region. The laboratory will be built at the Haryana State Electronics Development Corporation campus in Udyog Vihar 1. A Memorandum of understanding (MoU) was recently signed between the state government's IT department and UN.
The laboratory is likely to start operations from this year
The UN team is working on internal clearances and the laboratory is likely to start its operations in 2018, said reports. An IT department official said, "The lab will focus on the promotion of women entrepreneurs in the state and research regarding this would be done under two sub-heads, creating an ecosystem to support local women innovators and investing in technology start-ups by women."
Lab not just restricted to women entrepreneurship
The official said that the lab will not only be restricted to women entrepreneurs but will also work as a center for delivery of and training for new innovation and technology tools benefiting all UN member states. He added, "It will help to develop tech-based programmes to address various concerns of different regions and build information communication technology for meeting UN's sustainable development goals."
