Constant eve-teasing, stalking drove Gurugram girl to end her life
A Gurugram-based 17-year-old girl hung herself to death, on Monday, because of constant eve-teasing and stalking by an unknown man in her locality. She has not named her stalker in the hand-written suicide note. But she wrote she was unable to tolerate the regular eve-teasing, and so she decided to end her life. Her family claims that they never knew of her ordeal.
Her family claims she was 'normal' the day earlier
The Class-XII student appeared 'normal' when she went to bed on Sunday, her family claimed. When she didn't come out of her room till 8AM the next day, her anxious parents repeatedly knocked on the bolted door, but to no avail. They then broke it open and to their shock, found her hanging from a fan. Later that day, Badshapur cops recovered her suicide-note.
The girl's friends, neighbors are being questioned
Her note said that someone used to stalk her and pass lewd comments on a regular basis, due to which she took the extreme step. Ashok Bakshi, DCP (South) said based on her note, a case under IPC Section 306 (abatement to suicide) has been registered. Cops are questioning her friends and locals of Teekli village to ascertain the identity of the stalker.
Not too long ago: Stalking cases that led to suicide
Earlier in May, a 17-year-old Mewat girl hung herself at her home after allegedly being stalked, abducted and gangraped by eight men. Her family was reportedly being pressurized by the "influential families" of the accused to drop the case. Two months earlier, a police aspirant, unable to cope with the constant stalking by her neighbor, killed herself in Rohini.
