'Make our city safer,' say Gurugram-residents after several sex-racket busts
Four days after a sex-racket was busted in a club in Gurugram's MG Road, residents of the area carried out a candle march on Sunday demanding action against pubs and clubs inside malls. They alleged these have become "hubs for drugs and prostitution", due to which venturing out in the evenings with families and children have become unsafe. The racket was busted last Wednesday.
Hawkers have also started dealing in drug trade: Residents
"People who live within walking distance of the malls prefer to go to Sector 29 or Cyber Hub," said Umesh Gupta, president, DLF 2 RWA. The protesters highlighted how hawkers have also started "dealing in drugs because of the money," and it had led to nuisance in the area. They suggested removing them from the roads and creating a separate hawker zone.
Top cop assures strict action against illegal activities
Police Commissioner KK Rao assured action against illegal activities and said patrolling has been increased "to curb such activities." "Over the last 15-20 days, checkpoints were being placed," he said, adding they have carried out raids in some more outlets. "So far, cases have been registered against three outlets," he informed. Last week's raid was in Ion club of JMD Arcade Regent Mall.
Club owner claims arrested women dancers not employed with Ion
The club owner Rohit Garg, bouncers Rakesh and Pramod, manager Rajesh and two women dancers were booked under sections of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. The bouncers and dancers were arrested. Garg has claimed the allegations are false and that police are harassing him. He added the women aren't employed with Ion. Meanwhile, cops have asked the excise department to cancel the club's license.
Second raid this month, Gurugram slowly becoming sex-racket hub?
Gurugram is slowly gaining the reputation of a sex-racket hub. The raid on Ion is the second this month, with Phantom Club (MGF Mall) and Ignite Club (Sahara Mall) being raided on July 4. Those led to the arrest of seven. Many pub owners are now denying entry to single women and asking for Aadhaar card or marriage certificates for couples.
