Delhi: Free travel for senior citizens in DTC buses
The Delhi government on Wednesday announced free travel for senior citizens in all Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses plying in the national capital. Celebrating the third anniversary of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government yesterday, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said that the order for implementation of free travel for senior citizens in all buses has been issued. He said, "We will soon implement it."
At present, senior citizens are issued passes on concessional rates
Presently, the senior citizens of Delhi are given passes on concessional rates for both air-conditioned and non-AC low-floor buses. The passes to the senior citizens are issued worth Rs. 250 for traveling on non-AC buses and Rs. 350 for traveling on AC buses. Currently, there are around 3,800 buses operated by the DTC on Delhi roads.
Plan was announced earlier in March 2017
Notably, the plan to roll out free rides for senior citizens in DTC and cluster buses were announced by the AAP government earlier in March 2017 by the then Transport Minister, Satyendra Kumar Jain.
