DU's JMC College gets Electoral Literacy Club, an 'institutional vehicle'
A college under Delhi-university'>Delhi University got an Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) yesterday, with a senior Election Commission official saying the club will serve as an "institutional vehicle" for strengthening democracy. The ELC was opened at Jesus & Mary College by Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vijay Dev. The Commission has also launched jingles on radio and other media to encourage eligible voters for enrollment.
Number of Delhi voters has decreased compared to last year
Incidentally, Delhi's draft electoral-roll published September 1 showed a dip of over 1.4 lakh in the total number of electors, compared to the last year's draft list, with authorities attributing death and migration as main reasons behind the fall. The total number of Delhi voters is 1,36,15,776 in the draft-roll; the number of male and female voters decreased vis-à-vis the one published last year.
EC to publish final electoral roll on January 4
The Election Commission had also begun the process to induct new voters, who have either turned 18 or will complete that age by January 1 next year, into the electoral list, officials said. The number of male, female, and third gender electors is 75,20,824, 60,94,115, and 837 respectively, according to the latest draft roll. Final electoral rolls would be published on January 4.
