Delhi to Mumbai by road in 12 hours? Oh yes!
The 1,400km stretch between Delhi and Mumbai, which takes 20 hours by road, can now be covered in 12 hours, less than the 16 hours taken by Rajdhani to cover the two pivotal cities. A super express way connecting the two cities will be built in four phases, where the roads will have high-quality tarmac allowing travelers to attain a speed of over 120-kmph.
1st-phase of the Rs. 8 lakh crore project has started
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that first phase from Delhi to Jaipur work of the Rs. 8 lakh crore project has already started and it will be finished in 15 months. The other three phases are from Jaipur to Kota, Kota to Vadodara and Vadodara to Mumbai. The project is a part of Bharatmala Pariyojna and is expected to be done by 2020.
Delhi-Jaipur expressway will share load of vehicles, lessen traffic congestion
The Delhi-Jaipur stretch, once completed, will allow travelers to hike up their speed to 150-kmph, as against the present 90-kmph. Thus the time of six hours between the two cities will also get reduced to two hours. Three lakh vehicles, including heavy goods vehicles, can access this corridor. Hence, this expressway will help in taking off a major load from the current roads.
Points to be noted: Cattle blocking road, basic amenities, patrolling-officers
The super-expressway will go through less populated regions or rural areas, which means less traffic, and thus the slash in overall time. Government should also keep in mind some basic safety measures while constructing this ambitious project. Like cattle blocking the roads might be a big hurdle. Basic amenities should also be taken care of, as should the compulsory presence of patrolling officers.
