2 Delhi students stand among top 3 in JEE-Mains 2017
The results of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main were declared by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday. Two boys from Delhi secured the second and third position respectively in the same. Both scored 350 out of 360, and the tie was broken on the basis of their marks in physics, chemistry and math. 1,000 generic drug stores to be established around government hospitals
Women and Child Welfare Minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi on Thursday said a total of 1,000 stores selling generic drugs would be established around government hospitals across Ghaziabad. This is being done so that patients have easy access to cheap and affordable health care. The announcement has been made during the on-going debate as to whether government hospitals should prescribe generic drugs mandatorily.
30 students to be questioned in sedition case
30 students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) are going to be probed by the Delhi Police in last year's sedition case. Umesh Barthwal, the Investigating Officer notified the Vice Chancellor to direct the students to remain present on campus on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoon onwards. 3 students were arrested with regards to the same last year and were later bailed out.
DUSIB prepares action plan for the homeless in summer
The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has initiated a summer action plan for the homeless. Reflective paint reducing temperatures by 4-5 degrees Celsius, more desert coolers, drinking water facilities and rescue teams are some things the government has thought of. Delhi has 201 night shelters of which 115 are in porta cabins, 83 in concrete buildings and 3 in tents.
Authorities concentrating on making Sohna Road encroachment-free
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and Gurugram Police are currently focused on getting rid Sohna Road of encroachments. A joint team comprising of officials from all 3 bodies on Thursday towed illegally parked vehicles, fined vehicle owners and removed encroachments along sidewalks to make Sohna Road a 'smart road.' Vivek Kalia, estate officer of HUDA, ordered the drive.
10% incoming councillors of Delhi face criminal charges
The National Election Watch and the Association of Democratic Reforms analyzed 266 out of the 270 incoming councillors of the municipal corporation, and discovered that 10% of them have criminal cases pending against them. BJP ranks first with 14 of its victorious candidates facing criminal charges, AAP comes second with 8 candidates. The Congress and Samajwadi Party have 3 and 1 such candidates respectively.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar served contempt notice by NGT
On Thursday, the National Green Tribunal served the Art of Living foundation's Sri Sri Ravi Shankar with a contempt notice for blaming the Centre and the panel for damaging Yamuna's floodplains by permitting the foundation to hold their cultural festival. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatenter Kumar issued a notice to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and sought a reply before 9th May.
