Delhi: Class-10 candidate hangs herself after falling prey to ATM-fraud
A 16-year-old girl hung herself to death yesterday after being duped of Rs. 29,000 by two men at a Dwarka ATM. The family has been undergoing a financial crisis since her father isn't being able to go to work due to a recent surgery. Conmen managed to convince her withdrawal messages aren't reliable
On Monday, her father, Ranjeet Das, asked Nisha to withdraw Rs. 6,000 from a nearby ATM. After she was done, two men standing behind her asked if she had taken the receipt, to which she replied her father will get text-messages on his phone. The men managed to convince her that such messages aren't reliable and made her re-swipe the two debit cards.
She kept to herself and cried profusely since fraud: Sister
By the time she reached home, Ranjeet had received messages showing two withdrawals from his accounts amounting to Rs. 29,000. Shocked, Nisha rushed to the ATM and asked the guard about the men. Not finding a helpful response, she and her elder sister went to the Dwarka-North police station and filed an e-FIR. Since then, she had been crying profusely, her sister said.
Youngest of six daughters, Nisha recently appeared for Class-10 exams
Next day, when Nisha's elder sister didn't get any response after repeated knocks, she took a neighbor's help and broke open the door. They found her hanging from the ceiling using a dupatta.
