Delhi: Formation of separate board for 2,700 schools approved
The Delhi-government'>Delhi Government on Saturday approved the formation of a separate school board for nearly 2,700 schools in the city. "In the beginning, 21 or 22 state government schools will be affiliated to the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) and in the next four-five years all the schools will be brought under it," Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said in a press conference.

All schools expected to switch in the next five years
Delhi has around 1,000 government schools and around 1,700 private schools, most of them affiliated with the CBSE. The first 21-22 schools will be chosen after speaking with the Principals. In the next five years, all schools are expected to switch willingly.
DBSE will prepare patriotic and self-dependent students: Kejriwal
The DBSE's governing body will be headed by the Education Minister of Delhi and its executive body will be headed by a chief executive officer. "The DBSE will prepare patriotic and self-dependent students who will selflessly serve the country. It will bring in the best international practices and high-end techniques in school education and students will be taught as per their aptitude," Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal talked about other changes made in city's education policy
The Delhi government has brought several changes to the city's education policy. Last year, 25% of the budget was allotted to the city's education. Infrastructure has improved and teachers are being sent to other countries for training. "We reduced the power held by the Directorate of Education and transferred it into the hands of the school principal," Kejriwal said in the press conference.
DBSE might get started in the upcoming academic year
While presenting the annual budget, 2020, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had announced that Rs. 62 crores will be set aside by the government to set up a separate state board of education. They plan on getting DBSE on the ground for the upcoming academic year.
