Wind from stubble burning areas worsens Delhi's air quality
Delhi's air quality has slipped back to poor category due to change in wind direction, which is now flowing from stubble burning areas in Punjab and Haryana, authorities said today. According to reports, the air quality had improved to moderate level yesterday with an index of 181 but it slipped to the poor category again today with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 235.
Less traffic yesterday had led to better air quality
An official at the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) attributed the reason behind the slight improvement yesterday to less traffic and improvement in wind speed but as the traffic increased today, pollution in the city again rose and the air quality fell. An AQI between 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor, and 401-500 severe.
PM10 and PM2.5 level to increase in next 3 days
The level of PM10 (presence of particles with diameter less than 10 micrometers) was at 230 in Delhi and that of PM2.5 (diameter less than 2.5 micrometers) was at 101 according to data by System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR). SAFAR has also forecast that PM10 expected to touch 264 and PM2.5 to reach 111 in the next three days.
