2,500 elderly taught cyber safety, courtesy Delhi Police
In a noble attempt, Delhi Police organized a workshop yesterday to make senior citizens aware of cyber crimes. Attended by more than 2,500 people, along with 60 cops, it encompassed aspects of UPI and BHIM applications. Also, a cyber forensic van for ease of onsite investigation got launched. The van would be equipped with a portable smartphone and hard-disc forensic tools, officials said.
'Most important thing in cyber crimes is to recover money'
Titled 'Cyber Safety and Digital Awareness Programme for Senior Citizens', the event had MoS (Home Affairs) Hansraj Gangaram Ahir as chief guest. While enlightening the crowd about Himmat app and all-women patrolling squad, Ahir advised against sharing account details online and to ignore ads promising huge amounts of money. He further said, in cyber crimes, "the most important thing is to recover the money."
Rs. 20,000cr granted for 'modernization of police force'
As for the role of his ministry in battling cyber-crimes, Ahir said, "PM Modi is committed to modernization of police force in the country and has provided Rs. 20,000cr for the purpose." He added a portal for online registration of cyber-crimes is also being developed.
Cyber-cells have been set up in 14 districts of Delhi
Around 4:20PM, the program started, with distribution of handouts informing about cyber-threats and secure online habits to attendees. As it progressed, Delhi Police chief Amulya Patnaik said that cyber-cells have been set up in 14 districts of Delhi. The cells would be working under a Special Cyber Unit at Headquarter level. For this, about 800 officers are being trained, especially to deal with cyber-crimes.
