Delhi government plans to get 200 electric buses soon

The national capital will soon get its first fleet of low-floor electric buses as the Delhi government plans to procure 200 buses that will be rolled out for the commuters by the end of this year. According to a senior transport department official, the number of buses will be increased once their performance is judged by the officials.

Two depots identified for accommodation and charging of buses
According to reports, two bus depots have been identified for the accommodation of these buses that will provide them with charging facilities. "We have identified two locations ΜΆ East Vinod Nagar and Bawana, which will be equipped with 11 KV sub-stations to provide charging facilities for the buses. The reason behind choosing these locations was the availability of sufficient power supply," said an official.

All CNG buses will be replaced with electric buses: Officials
On a single charge, an electric bus can cover at least 250 kms. According to officials, even though an electric bus is much costlier than an airconditioned and low-floor CNG bus, the cost of maintenance for an electric bus is comparatively lower than a CNG bus. As per reports, all CNG buses will eventually be replaced with electric buses as they are more environment-friendly.
