No weddings in Delhi this year, astrologers say
"Subh Vivah" sampanna nahi ho paega in Delhi, at least till January and February next year. Wondering why? Astrologers have attributed it to planetary placement change. They said this occurrence has taken place after 20 years, pushing back all the 'auspicious' marriage dates from November and December. This has resulted in a dip in business for caterers, wedding planners, fashion designers, and hall owners.
Weddings cannot happen before November, just seven dates in 2018
Jaigovind Shastri, a popular astrologer based in Pandav Nagar (East Delhi), said, "As per the Hindu calendar, wedding cannot happen before November 19." From thereon till December end, there are only seven dates available: November 23, 24, 25, 26, December 11, 12 and 13. This may save the roads in the national capital from the standstill state they go into during the wedding season.
We haven't started receiving permission requests yet: Police
However, Delhi Police isn't optimistic about it since they have not received intimation of any kind. "We have not started receiving permission requests yet, so we cannot say for sure if wedding season has been shifted to January," said a senior traffic police official.
Getting 80% less bookings than usual, say designers and caterers
Meanwhile, caterers, wedding planners and fashion designers have already started getting anxious, since they haven't received any orders yet. Rohit Kumar of Jai Ganpati Caterers and Tent House said he has received bookings for just 4 days, as against the usual back-to-back bookings for 20 days in November. Designer Deepa Sondhi (pictured) said people are visiting her store, but for festive season, not weddings.
Even banquet halls are booked for just 7-8 days
The same picture is reflected across wedding venues. Most of the 15 popular wedding venues are yet to get bookings for November and December, against the general norm of getting booked a year ahead. Sanjeev Verma, owner of Celebrations Banquet Hall and B2 Party Palace at Lawrence Road (near Britannia Chowk), said that almost all banquet halls are booked for just 7-8 days.
