Delhi government announces 'Happiness Classes' in schools
The Delhi Government on Wednesday announced about introducing 'happiness classes' in all its schools from Nursery to Class VIII, for the academic session starting from April. The initiative was announced by Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister, Manish Sisodia during Excellence Awards ceremony. He took to Twitter to declare that the initiative will make children happier, confident and help them to build greater self-esteem.
Initiative to be started to make children self-aware: Sisodia
Announcing the initiative, Sisodia said that the purpose of education is not only to educate students but also to make them self-aware citizens. He further added, "It is these self-aware citizens who will create a better society. The 'Happiness' curriculum will be introduced through activities for children from class Nursery to eight, and children's development would be seen with a 'Happiness Index'."
Government wants to "train young minds to be happy"
The initiative is being introduced keeping in view the recent incidents of violence among children on school campuses. Sisodia further said that the government wants to "train young minds to be happy" and that this will be an activity-based subject and will be taught every day. He added, "The curriculum for the subject is being prepared by a team of directorate of education officials."
