Delhi government mulling over proposal to impose night curfew: Sources
A proposal to impose a night curfew in the national capital is being considered by the Delhi government in view of rising coronavirus cases, official sources said on Monday. "A proposal for imposing night curfew is under consideration. The details are being discussed, including the time period of the curfew which could be from 10 pm to 5 am," a senior government official said.
No decision on lockdown yet: Chief Minister Kejriwal
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Friday said that Delhi was undergoing the fourth wave of COVID-19 but a lockdown was not being considered yet. "As per the current situation, we are not considering imposing a lockdown. We are closely monitoring the situation and such a decision will only be taken after due public consultation," the Chief Minister had said in a press briefing.
Delhi Police has intensified the enforcement of COVID-19 rules
Recently, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal directed authorities in the national capital to intensify the enforcement of COVID-19 rules to check the spread of the coronavirus. Delhi Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Chinmoy Biswal said they are taking strict action against the violators.
Several eateries, clubs were recently fined for flouting COVID-19 norms
Four people were arrested and several restaurants, nightclubs, and hotels were fined and face cases for flouting COVID-19 safety guidelines, following a two-day special drive which was conducted in places with high footfall, including markets, on Friday and Saturday. People were also fined for not wearing face masks and spitting in public areas. Some of the establishments were penalized for serving hookah.
The daily positivity rate stands at 5.54%
Surprisingly, in the last two weeks, police on average challaned 842 people per day for not wearing masks. On Monday, 3,548 more people tested positive in Delhi. The daily positivity rate stood at 5.54% with 64,003 tests conducted. The new cases pushed the total cases to 6,79,962. The death count rose to 11,096 after 15 new deaths were recorded yesterday.
Delhi recorded the highest daily count this year on Sunday
On Monday 64,003 coronavirus tests were conducted, as opposed to 86,899 conducted a day earlier. Delhi recorded 4,033 coronavirus cases on Sunday, the highest daily count this year. A total of 16,72,538 vaccine doses have been administered till now.
India's tally crosses 12.6 million with 96K+ new cases
Meanwhile, India on Monday reported more than 96,000 fresh coronavirus infections, pushing the nationwide tally past 12.6 million cases. More than 440 more patients died in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 1,65,598. Maharashtra, which is the worst-hit state in India, continued to report a high daily positivity rate in coronavirus infections.
