Delhi: GoAir employees pose as passengers, steal 53 mobile phones
In what is sure to serve as a major embarrassment for GoAir, two of its executives were arrested on Monday in Delhi for stealing 53 mobile phones. The accused identified as Sachin Manav, 30, and Satish Pal, 40, were working as ramp officers since 2011 and 2015 respectively. They posed as passengers during the theft at IGI Airport which happened earlier this month. Here's more.
When CCTV-footage didn't help in investigation, police took another route
The LAS Cargo Operation Manager filed a complaint regarding a missing shipment bound for Delhi from Patna. The case was registered under IPC Section 379 and the Delhi police launched an investigation. When even CCTV footage couldn't help crack the case, the phones were technically analyzed and addresses where the stolen phones were being used, raided. The two then confessed to the crime.
Due to space shortage, part of consignment shifted to warehouse
"Due to space shortage, a part of the consignment was shifted to the warehouse. It said that at the time of unloading the consignment in the warehouse, it was found that the shipment had only 30 bags and one bag which contained 53 phones was found missing," DCP (IGI) Sanjay Bhatia said.
Accused put shipment on conveyor belt, exited airport as passengers
Further, Bhatia said the two were caught from Aerocity. About how the crime was committed, Bhatia said, "After unloading the shipment, they placed the stolen shipment over a conveyor belt and received the same from the conveyor belt posing like regular passengers at the arrival hall of Terminal 2." Police recovered eight stolen phones from the duo, and they allegedly sold five more.
