Delhi: Teen moves HC over filthy pond near her school
A 16-year-old girl has knocked the Delhi High Court's door, seeking directions to the authorities to clean a pond near her school. Simran, a student of Sarvodya Kanya Vidyalaya, Aya Nagar, in South Delhi, has highlighted the suffering of all students, staff members, and residents of the area, who have been falling ill because of the garbage that is being dumped in the pond.
Court orders immediate inspection of the area
A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar expressed concerns over the condition and the well-being of people because of the filthy pond. The court ordered immediate inspection of the area and sought a report from the Delhi government, Delhi Jal Board (DJB), and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).
Delhi HC schedules next hearing for February 5
The bench asked the petitioner, Simran, to point out the area to the authorities, who should submit a status report about the garbage and sewer problems in the area. "If the issue raised before them is correct, immediate steps will be taken to rectify the same," the bench said. The court has fixed the next date of hearing for February 5.
