IAF Officer, colleague beaten, Delhi Police arrest 3
Delhi Police arrested a milk supplier, a hotel employee and a nightclub bouncer for assaulting an IAS Officer and his colleague in South Delhi's Tughlaqabad. BSF Jawan allegedly committed suicide at Bhondsi BSF camp
In a suspected suicide case, the body of a BSF jawan was discovered on early Sunday at the Bhondsi BSF camp. According to the police, he sustained three bullet injuries on his chin from his Insas service rifle. The jawan was identified as 38-year-old Sunil Kumar Yadav. His body was found by a jawan who had to replace Yadav for duty around 3 am.
East Delhi votes most, South votes least
The municipal corporation elections of Delhi witnessed an increase in voter turnout by just 1% from the 2012's civic elections. The Delhi State Election Commission states that the total number of people that voted was 71.39 lakh (53.58%). East Delhi had the highest voter turnout with 56.08% whereas voters in South Delhi voted the least (51.59%).
Delhi Police receive 865 calls on election day
The municipal corporation elections that took place on Sunday kept the Delhi Police busy, with them having to attend an average of 78 calls hourly, and a total of 865 calls between 8 am and 7 pm. According to the police, out of these, 328 calls were trick calls with regards to report fake voting, quarrels, money, liquor distribution and booth capturing.
Tamil Nadu farmers postpone protests till 25th May
On Sunday evening, hours after meeting CM Edapaddi Palaniswami, protesting farmers from Tamil Nadu put their agitation on hold till 25th May. This move gives the government a month's time to meet the farmers' demands, including writing off their loans from nationalized banks. The farmers have also demanded a revised drought relief package as a solution to the alleged drying up of Cauvery.
3 men transporting buffaloes assaulted in Delhi
A group of people including animal rights activists beat up 3 men on Saturday night; according to police, the victims were transporting buffaloes in a cruel manner. The victims were admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre and were discharged on Sunday morning. The police registered FIRs against both groups-one for cruelty towards animals and the other for the assault against the 3 men.
