Delhi government orders all public transport vehicles to install GPS
Come February 15, all public transport vehicles must have functional GPS in their vehicles, announced the Delhi government on Wednesday. According to a report, the transport department of the city has issued a notice that it will also launch a special drive from March 1 under which vehicles violating the order will be issued challans, permits will be canceled and vehicles will be seized.
Parked vehicles must also have functional GPS
It is mandatory for all public vehicles with Delhi permits to have functional GPS devices in their vehicles- be it autos, taxis, buses or gramin sewa vehicles. A vehicle, even if parked, with no signal from its GPS device, will be considered as violating the order. Earlier in 2009 itself, the government made it mandatory for all autos and taxis to have GPS devices.
Control room set by transport department to monitor vehicles
To monitor all public transport vehicles through GPS tracking, a control room has been set up by the department. An official said, "A list of vehicles that don't have functional GPS for the last three months or more is being prepared. Next, vehicles with non-functional GPS devices for more than two months will be targeted and then it will come down to 10 days."
