14 immigration, 46 e-visa counters added in Delhi airport
Those who are flying out of Delhi are set to face less hassle at the airport. There are now 14 more immigration and 46 new e-visa counters in the expanded and renovated IGI airport, which will be thrown open by end of this month. Another key feature in the revamped airport is elevators for senior citizens and differently-abled passengers.
There will be no extra walking, everything in same area
Airport officials said the addition of counters will help passengers save time, as they don't have to queue up or walk for 10 minutes to complete security-checks. Earlier, one had to walk up one level to the departure area for security-check, which itself took a lot of time. But now, everything will be done inside the transfer area, after immigration clearance is complete.
'Expansion work started in March,' more redesigning plans left
After the addition, the number of immigration counters has gone up to 20, and 'e-visa on arrival' counters to 64. "The expansion work started in March this year. The domestic to international transfer area will be ready by the end of August," a DIAL spokesperson said. Apart from e-visa counters, planning is on to restructure the 'e-visa on arrival' area.
Dedicated routes for those applying for e-visa on arrival
This particular area, after redesigning, will provide dedicated routes for those who want to apply for e-visa on arrival. "They won't be mixed up with other immigration passengers. Flap-gates have also been installed," the DIAL spokesperson said, adding this facility will be ready by September-end.
