Delhi cop sends half-salary every month to ailing J&K family
In January, a family of four living near the Indo-Pakistan border in J&K lost their sole bread-earner. The family was crushed. More than grief, they were in crisis. Just then, their savior in the form of Delhi IPS officer, Aslam Khan, happened to them. DCP Khan's been sending half of her salary to the family every month since then while keeping tabs on them.
For Khan, focus was more on the children's education
Delhi DCP Aslam wanted to help the family, ever since she had heard of Sardar Maan Singh's murder, which happened in Delhi's Jahangirpuri. "I somehow got in contact with them and realized they are very poor," she said. For her, the focus was more on the children's education. Since February, she started sending part of her salary. Her deed has left the family indebted.
We were scared but Aslam started helping us: Singh's family
"We were scared but Ma'am (Aslam) started helping us. We're thankful to her," said the family members, who are settled 394.6km away from Delhi, in RS Pura sector of J&K. They stay in a small hut in a hamlet in Flora that has 150 houses.
That unfortunate day, Singh was killed on-his-way to nephew's wedding
Mann Singh (pictured) worked as a truck-driver and had collected Rs. 80,000 for his nephew's wedding. On that unfortunate day, he was on his way to his village but had mistakenly taken a wrong route. As he alighted from his vehicle to ask for the right track, a bunch of boys attacked him and fled with his hard-earned money. He soon bled to death.
