Delhi cabs to have child-lock stickers for women safety
Cabs operating in Delhi will now have to paste at least four stickers informing passengers about the car's child-lock system and explaining how to disable it. Passing a resolution, State Transport Authority (STA) has made it mandatory for all cabs; permits would be issued to drivers only if their cabs have stickers. STA Member and Kasturba Nagar MLA Madan Lal said: "Cab owners will have to put stickers informing about the lock system near the door handles on all four sides of the car. Also, pasting two more on the front and rear will also be allowed."
Delhi-Govt to issue notification mandating stickers on city's two-lakh cabs
Delhi's Motor Licensing Offices will be directed not to issue permits to taxis until they have child-lock stickers. Transport Department's enforcement team and traffic police would also prosecute violators. The decision comes after Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) took notice of issue saying child-lock system increases possibilities of crime against women as they can't open the doors from inside if the feature is activated.
DCW Chief Swati Jaihind's statement
"It was much needed as a woman should feel safe while traveling in a cab. The stickers would make passengers aware that something called child lock even exists and that they should disable it at the start of the journey."
