Delhi: Blackmailed by husband's friend, woman commits suicide
On Thursday, a 28-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in East Delhi's Mansarovar Park area as she was upset with her husband's friend. In her suicide note, the woman named the man, revealing he had been stalking and blackmailing her for the last two years. He also demanded sexual favors from her. The woman's husband was oblivious to this, he claimed.
Woman's husband returned home to find her hanging
When the woman's husband, who works at a call center in Karol Bagh, returned home on the fateful day he saw her hanging from a ceiling fan. The police were informed and on scanning her bedroom, the officers found a suicide note, written in English. The husband identified his wife's handwriting. The police have sent the note for forensic examination.
Woman had stopped talking to family members, husband revealed
A police officer privy to the probe said the man was blackmailing the deceased. He threatened he would send her 'objectionable' pictures to her husband and also upload them on social media. Upon questioning, the husband said his wife was tensed and had stopped interacting with the family. When the husband asked her what's wrong, she didn't divulge any details.
The accused runs a sweet shop, has been arrested
The couple had been married for seven years. When police asked the husband if he knew about the stalking, blackmailing part, he refused. The friend of the husband, who runs a sweet shop, has been arrested and booked for abetment of suicide. At the MS Park police station, a case was registered under IPC Section 306, said Deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav.
Phone and other electronic items have been seized
"We have seized the mobile phones and other electronic items from the house of the accused. We have sent them to the forensic lab to see if they contain the pictures mentioned in the suicide note," said DCP Yadav.
