All-woman patrol squad launched in Delhi
'She needed a #Hero, instead we made #one out of her,' reads Romil Baaniya, DCP South Delhi's tweet dated 8th March. Just a day before, he had launched the 'women protection patrol squad' - a team of bike-borne women, with twin objectives in mind - protecting women and children and encouraging women cops. The squad was launched in form of 'road trip'.
Equipped with wireless sets, firearms, these women cops rock
"The squad has been equipped with bikes with four riding gear, a gypsy with a women police officer as a driver and in charge to lead the patrol team, wireless sets, protection team and firearms", said Baaniya. Delhi university students, other police women and Jamia student Roshni Misbah, the famous 'hijabi-biker' joined the squad. The women cops were given wholesome training before the launch.
Squad's main focus will be women-frequented areas
The 'Women Patrolling Squad' has been asked to focus on areas like Sarojini Nagar Market, Select City Mall, Hauz Khas Village, Kamla Nehru and Gargi Colleges, schools etc. The officers have specifically been asked to be sensitive to issues faced by school girls. "The presence of Women Patrolling Squad in the area will also put a check on the anti-social elements," hopes Baaniya.
