E-rickshaw service launched at Gurugram metro stations
What's the story
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari, launched the battery-operated e-rickshaw service from Gurugram's HUDA City Centre Metro Station to ensure women safety and improve last-mile connectivity.
He flagged off the first fleet of 500 e-rickshaws that would operate from Guru Dronacharya, Sikanderpur, MG Road, IFFCO Chowk, and HUDA City Centre Metro stations.

SmartE e-rickshaws
Specially designed e-rickshaws provide safety and last-mile connectivity
The e-rickshaws were launched by Delhi Metro in partnership with SmartE.
They are designed with full-front windscreen, covered cabins, CCTV-cameras, and GPS-devices to offer last-mile connectivity within a 3-4km radius of the stations.
They operate at nominal fares: Rs. 10 for first 2kms and Rs. 5/km thereafter.
By 2017 end, another 500 e-rickshaws would operate from all 14 DMRC stations in Gurugram and Faridabad.
