Dwarka: Thieves flee with ATM machine having Rs. 30L cash
Dwarka police are on the lookout for a gang which uprooted an ATM machine and decamped with it yesterday. The machine had roughly Rs. 30L cash in it, said cops, adding the accused used a pickup truck to carry the kiosk. Current and former bank employees will also be scrutinized to ascertain the role of insiders, said DCP (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse.
Upon entering ATM, thieves blackened two of three cameras
The men hit the ATM located in Dabri, a residential colony in South West Delhi, a little past midnight. After entering the kiosk located behind a wooden partition, they blackened two out of three cameras placed inside. They couldn't spot the third camera, Alphonse guessed. That camera captured their act partially, thankfully providing some clues to the cops.
Improper security measures: No guard, 4 screws held down ATM
Alphonse said the machine wasn't tightly bolted and was held down with just four screws. Proper security measures weren't followed since security-guard wasn't deployed by the bank. The miscreants hence could easily pull it up, he said, adding, that is why bank officials will be questioned as well. The case came to the fore when a person visited the ATM today to withdraw money.
Case registered, CCTV footage from nearby shops being scanned
A case has been registered and investigation started. CCTV footage from nearby shops are being scanned. Cops suspect it's the handiwork of the same gang which has carried out similar thefts in the area in the past ten months. They're also trying to find a connection with a Faridabad heist two days ago, where an ATM was pulled out the same way.
