Delhi markets to remain shut tomorrow to protest sealing drive
To protest the sealing drive by the city municipal corporation in South Delhi on the directions of the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee, all markets and shopping complexes across the city will remain shut on Tuesday. The decision to shut down was taken by over 400 representatives from market welfare committees and other leading trade associations in a meeting at Constitution Club of India.
Traders anguished over the process of sealing drive
Chandni Chowk Sarv Vyapar Mandal president Sanjay Bhargava said all traders are anguished about the fact that no due process is being followed. He added that none of the markets are safe as all traders are being harassed with demands of ownership proof. "We are a market from the times of Shahjahanabad and there is no rationale behind this drive," he said.
Traders accuse Monitoring Committee of violating Municipal Corporation Act
According to a report, the traders' association has been claiming that the Monitoring Committee violated the orders of the Delhi High Court and the Municipal Corporation Act. A trader further added that the high court's order clearly states that a notice should be served to traders 48 hours prior to any sealing activity, so that they have time to give a reply.
