#CareerBytes: Top PSUs you can apply for with good GATE-score
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is one of the most competitive exams for engineering graduates. While GATE is conducted for admission to postgraduate courses in engineering/technology, GATE scores are used for recruiting candidates for PSU jobs. Candidates having a good GATE score can apply for jobs at top PSUs. Here are some sought-after PSUs you can apply for with good GATE score.
GATE scores are generally used only for shortlisting candidates
Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in India accept GATE scores to recruit candidates to various engineering-related posts. PSUs generally shortlist candidates for recruitment on the basis of their GATE scores, following which they might be required to attend a few other rounds, including group discussion and personal interview, depending on the company's recruitment procedure. However, some PSUs also use GATE scores for direct recruitment.
Various factors that affect GATE cut offs for PSU recruitment
While PSUs use GATE scores to shortlist candidates, the cutoffs for the same depend on a number of factors. GATE cutoffs depend on factors like the number of vacant posts, number of applicants, GATE paper difficulty, applicant's category, number of candidates who appeared for the exam that year, etc. Due to these factors, GATE cutoffs vary from PSU to PSU and change every year.
Aspirants need good GATE scores as the competition is high
Over 60 PSUs accept GATE scores for recruitment, but most candidates prefer jobs in the largest PSUs, the Maharatna companies. Currently, there are eight Maharatna PSUs. The Maharatna companies are the most sought-after by GATE candidates and as the competition is quite high, aspirants must have a good score in order to apply for jobs at these PSUs.
