IIT-Madras will soon start offering a five-year B.Tech+MBA course
A B.Tech and an MBA in India is like fries and ketchup: You can have one without the other, but people will look at you like you are some kind of lunatic. They shouldn't, but they will. Taking the connection between the two degrees into consideration, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, has launched a first-of-its-kind 'combo deal'- a techMBA program.
TechMBA to intake 25-30 students
The techMBA program (part of the Five-Year Inter-Disciplinary Dual Degree programs) will be offered to undergraduate students from all engineering streams. The course was conceptualized by the institute's Department of Management Studies (DOMS) and will be introduced from the Academic Year 2019-20. The techMBA program will have an intake of 25-30 students, who will be awarded two degrees upon completion.
Eligibility criteria for course: CGPA, aptitude test, personal interview
The Department of Management Studies will offer foundational techMBA courses in the third and fourth years across all undergraduate programs. The eligibility criteria for opting courses in the fifth year are CGPA, departmental aptitude test and/or personal interview.
TechMBA program would be a trendsetter: IIT-M professor
Notably, Prof. G. Arun Kumar, Head, Department of Management Studies, IIT Madras, said, "We believe techMBA program would be a trendsetter academically and a game-changer professionally." Kumar added, "We look forward to collaborating with the far-sighted corporations to invest our energies in the development of the next generation millennial talent founded on the pillars of technological depth, managerial breadth, and business wisdom."
TechMBA to help better prepare students for their careers
The IDDD program allows students of undergrad courses to utilize their fifth year in learning both technology and management disciplines. According to IIT-M, this course will help better prepare students for their careers, be it Management Innovators in industries or Thought Leaders in consultancies or Technopreneurs in deep technology domains. The program also involves academic exchange programs with the world-renowned universities.
