UPSC CSE recruitment process: Everything you should know about it
One of the most elusive exams in India, the Civil Services Examination (CSE) is held by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) every year. Several candidates apply for it annually, the recruitment process for which has three stages: Preliminary examination, Main examination, and Personal Interview. But what happens after a candidate clears the Personal Interview? Well, here's the answer.
Stage 1: Foundation training
The results of the UPSC Civil Services Examination are declared within a week after the interviews are conducted. After the selected candidates receive the allocation letter, they are given fundamental training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie for 15 weeks. The selected candidates are trained in the political, legal, constitutional, and socio-economic frameworks of India.
Stage 2: Professional training (Phase-1)
What is also called the "sneak peek at the real task" by the candidates, professional training teaches real job skills to probationers. This training continues for another 26 weeks. It aims to develop the professional skills of the probationers in handling a large range of responsibilities of an IAS officer and is also more application-oriented in nature.
Stage 3: Key aspects, duration of training
District Training is the most important part of the process. Here, the trainee officers are taught administrative skills. They get first-hand knowledge of the functioning of various features of the administration at the district level. The probationers are required to complete all the assignments, which are based on field studies in the district. This part of the training lasts for around a year.
Stage 4: Professional training (Phase-2)
Professional Training (Phase-2) is like a summarization of the whole training process. In this, probationers integrate the understanding and learning of their District Training experiences gained for over one year in the field along with the technical part they learned in the Foundational and Professional Training sessions. Its duration is six weeks. After this, their training period ends, and probationers are allocated to "cadres."
