Zomato's 'Food Rescue' mission saves over 1.5L meals every month
What's the story
Zomato's innovative 'Food Rescue' initiative is making a huge difference in the fight against food wastage.
The program, which was started on November 10, 2024, enables customers to buy canceled orders at discounted prices.
As per the company's CEO Deepinder Goyal, this initiative has successfully saved 75% of eligible orders or over 1.5 lakh meals every month.
Mechanism
How does it work?
The 'Food Rescue' feature aims to reduce wastage by providing canceled orders at discounted prices within a 3km radius of the delivery agent. Customers can only avail of these offers for a limited time.
Quick turnaround
Orders claimed and delivered within minutes
Goyal revealed that these rescued orders are typically claimed within two minutes and delivered in under nine minutes. He thanked customers for the positive reception of this feature.
The 'Food Rescue' initiative was launched to tackle food wastage, with Zomato seeing over 400,000 canceled orders every month.
These canceled deliveries are now up on the app for nearby users to buy at discounted rates.
Compensation
Original packaging and compensation for partners
Goyal assured that the rescued orders are delivered in their original and untampered packaging within minutes.
He also clarified that restaurant partners are compensated for both the original canceled order and a portion of the amount paid by the new customer.
Delivery partners receive the full compensation for their entire trip.
