Zomato hires 2 as 'Chief of Staff' from 18,000+ applicants
What's the story
Zomato's CEO Deepinder Goyal has revealed that out of over 18,000 applications for Chief of Staff role at his company, 30 people have been offered jobs and 18 of them have joined.
Four of the 18 are working directly under him, out of which two have been appointed in Chief of Staff roles.
Goyal confirmed these new hires are being "handsomely compensated for the value they bring," and stressed that no one was asked to pay anything to join.
Requirement clarification
Zomato clarifies controversial job listing requirement
This clarification comes after a job listing last year, which had a requirement for candidates to contribute ₹20 lakh toward Zomato's non-profit initiative, Feeding India.
Later, Zomato clarified the contribution requirement was a screening tool and not a mandatory payment. The company assured it had no intention of collecting this amount.
Goyal's approach to hiring was viewed as a strategy to attract talent that resonated with his public image and the company's values, emphasizing connection between personal branding and recruitment.
Talent diversity
Diverse backgrounds of new hires at Zomato
The 30 people Zomato has picked come from various backgrounds.
They are founders who bootstrapped start-ups from their dormitory rooms, engineers who rewrote entire tech stacks over a weekend, and brilliant young minds fresh out of college.
Goyal said this hiring process is not just a one-time thing, but a long-term investment in people who will shape the future with him.
AI collaboration
Future collaboration plans with AI-focused leaders
In a recent post, Goyal said he would love to work with business and product leaders who are good at using artificial intelligence (AI) as their second brain.
The statement shows his vision for the future of Zomato and its group companies, hinting at a possible transition toward more AI-driven strategies in their operations.
