Zepto to move HQ from Mumbai to Bengaluru
Quick commerce startup Zepto is planning to move its headquarters from Powai, Mumbai to Sarjapur in Bengaluru. According to Moneycontrol, the three-year-old company rivaling Zomato's Blinkit and Swiggy's Instamart, aims to bring all its operations under one roof. The relocation will involve moving approximately 1,700-1,800 employees currently spread across business verticals in Mumbai and tech and product teams in Bengaluru.
Zepto expects to save ₹40-50 lakh per month in rent
Zepto has mandated all employees to relocate by the end of November or early December. The company will cover the relocation expenses for all willing employees, a one-time cost estimated at around ₹3-4 crore. However, Zepto expects to offset this expense with savings of approximately ₹40-50 lakh per month in rent after moving from Mumbai to Bengaluru.
Zepto to vacate current offices, eyeing larger Bengaluru property
Zepto currently operates two major offices in India: an 80,000-90,000 square feet space in Mumbai and a smaller 30,000-40,000 square feet property in Bengaluru. The company plans to vacate both these properties and move into a larger 1.5 lakh square-feet office space in Bengaluru. The new location is reportedly being finalized around Sarjapur, HSR or Bellandur areas which are home to several large multinational companies and startups, including Swiggy and Flipkart.
Majority of Zepto's Mumbai employees willing to relocate
Of the total 1,000 employees based in Mumbai, approximately 90% are already willing to move. The remaining employees are still in discussions about relocation, as per the Moneycontrol report. If all goes according to plan, only about 5-7% of these employees will be unable to make the move to Bengaluru along with the company. A bulk of Zepto's future hiring will happen for and from Bengaluru. The startup plans to hire as many as 500 employees in various corporate roles.
