Jaitley to open World Economic Forum India Summit
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is set to open the World Economic Forum's (WEF) India summit on November 4. Jaitley will deliver the opening address at the event that will see participation of more than 250 stakeholders and leaders, including Union Ministers. Business leaders including ICICI Bank chief Chanda Kochhar, Jubilant Bhartia Group's Hari Bhartia, Cargill India's Siraj Chaudhry, etc. will attend the event.
What is World Economic Forum?
World Economic Forum (WEF) is an International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation, established in 1971 as a not-for-profit foundation. Headquartered in Geneva, the Forum engages the political, business, academic and other leaders of society in collaborative efforts to improve the state of the world. Professor Klaus Schwab is the Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum.
The famous WEF Meetings
WEF is best known for its annual winter meeting in Davos, Switzerland. The meeting brings together top business leaders, international political leaders, intellectuals, and journalists to discuss the most pressing issues facing the world. WEF also convenes regional meetings each year in Latin America and East Asia. Beside meetings, the forum produces series of research reports and engages its members in sector specific initiatives.
WEF to host 'National Strategy Day'
WEF along with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), will host the National Strategy Day on India in New Delhi on November 3-4. The National Strategy Day on India will be a platform to boost economic growth and social inclusion. It will drive profitable agriculture, foster youth employability, ensure access to sustainable energy, promote universal financial access and realize smarter approaches to urbanization.
India's position in WEF's annual index
Navigating through the global macroeconomic complexities with domestic demands, India improved its competitiveness ranking from 71 to 55 in the past year on WEF's Annual Index.
Participating Ministers and Chief Ministers
'National Strategy Day on India', would see the participation of Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha, Power Minister Piyush Goyal and Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra - Chandrababu Naidu, K Chandrashekar Rao and Devendra Fadnavis, respectively would also be in attendance.
30th India Economic Summit
The upcoming India summit in New Delhi, will be the 30th annual India Economic Summit to be convened by the World Economic Forum.
India Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 Award
In the World Economic Forum India summit themed, 'Delivering Growth in the New Context', Minister of State for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal will give away the India Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 Award on November 3.
