Interview with BuzzFeed News
Cook said: "I see my role as CEO to prepare as many people as I can to be CEO. That's what I'm doing, and then the board makes a decision at that point in time." Cook and Ahrendts were interviewed at Apple's new Chicago retail-store.
Ahrendts calls rumors "fake news" and "silly"
Ahrendts, who joined Apple in 2014 after Cook persuaded her to leave Burberry brand, shut down the rumors of her being the next CEO, calling them "fake news" and "silly" in the interview. She currently oversees 60,000 retail-workers and is responsible for over a million daily customers' in-store experiences. The Apple Retail SVP was ranked 13th on Fortune's Most Powerful Women (2017) list.
Angela Ahrendts was CEO of Burberry for 8 years
Though Angela Ahrendts denied rumors, it wouldn't be surprising if she succeeded Tim Cook as Apple's next CEO, considering her impressive experience. She was the CEO of Burberry from 2006 to 2014. She is also known for reviving the struggling British luxury fashion brand. Soon after Ahrendts joined Apple, Tim Cook said her "success" at the company was "off the charts".
Tim Cook on Angela Ahrendts
In 2015, Tim Cook said: "I knew she (Ahrendts) was going to be off the charts, but she's even more off the charts than I thought. She came in so fast; there was no (learning) curve. I've never met a single individual like that before."
