TRAI: Airtel offers fastest 4G speeds in Delhi-NCR, Jio second
A new report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has revealed that Airtel offers the fastest 4G speed in the Delhi-NCR region, not Reliance Jio. Jio takes second place in the Delhi service area, which includes Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad. Vodafone comes third, but with considerably lower speeds than those offered by Airtel and Reliance Jio. Here's more.
Airtel tops download speeds, while Vodafone tops uploads
According to the report, 4G download speeds offered by Airtel in the Delhi-NCR region touched 8.9Mbps - 1.6Mbps more than the 7.3Mbps 4G download speeds offered by Reliance Jio. Vodafone lagged far behind, with a peak 4G download speed of just 4.9Mbps. In terms of 4G upload speeds, however, Vodafone came first with 5.8Mbps, followed by Jio and Airtel with 2.1Mbps, and 2.0Mbps, respectively.
Airtel also loads webpages, buffers videos faster
The TRAI report also found that websites loaded fastest on Airtel, at 6.7 seconds (average time taken to open a tested webpage). Jio came second with 7.2 seconds, and Vodafone, last, with 9 seconds. Video streaming delay is also the least on Airtel, at 1.7 seconds, followed by Jio and Vodafone at 2.6 seconds and 2.7 seconds, respectively.
3G speeds, call drop rates and more
Meanwhile, in terms of 3G speed, MTNL led with 3.7 Mbps, followed by Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea Cellular at 3.3Mbps, 2.3Mbps, and 2.0Mbps, respectively. The TRAI also found that the Delhi-NCR region, on an average, saw only 2% of calls dropped. However, MTNL and Aircel had high drop rates, with MTNL having 19.5% (2G) and 8.3% (3G), and Aircel having 5.7% (2G).
