Will Vishal Sikka join HPE as CTO? Sources say yes
A week ago, Vishal Sikka resigned from the post of Infosys CEO and joined as executive vice chairman. Yesterday, he quit that too, stepping down with immediate effect. But he isn't sitting idle. According to sources, he is likely to join Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) as its chief technology officer (CTO). Before Infosys, Sikka was the CTO of German software maker SAP.
Sikka's three-year stint marked by several highs and lows
Sikka, an AI doctorate from Stanford, replaced S.D. Shibulal as Infosys CEO in 2014. His three-year stint at India's premier IT company was marked by bitter showdowns with the founders, continuous high profile exits and dismal financial condition of Infosys. Ironically, days before his retirement, Infosys founder Narayana Murthy opined that Sikka was "more CTO material than CEO material".
HPE is most likely Sikka's next step
HPE was created in 2015 when it split from Hewlett-Packard. Unlike HP which sells computers and printers, HPE's focus is on data centre hardware and software. Former CTO Martin Fink stepped down last year. The position remains vacant. Though Sikka had said he hoped to take some time off for family, sources say he is exploring options and is likely to go with HPE.
