    UPI down: Millions unable to pay via GPay, Paytm, PhonePe

    What's the story

    Users across India are facing disruptions in Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions, with payment failures being reported on Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, and other banking apps.

    According to Downdetector, reports of outages spiked in the evening impacting transactions, fund transfers, and login access.

    The State Bank of India (SBI) is also struggling with fund transfers, with 47% of complaints related to this issue, along with difficulties in mobile banking (37%) and online banking (16%).

    Service disruptions

    Google Pay users report issues with payments

    Google Pay users have mostly complained about payments (72%), followed by website access (14%) and app-related issues (14%).

    Paytm has also been disrupted with 86% complaints related to payments. Other issues include login and purchase functions (9%) and (6%), respectively.

    SBI is struggling with fund transfers (47%), mobile banking (37%), and online banking (16%).

    Outage details

    UPI services affected as complaints surge

    The outage seems to have begun in the late evening, with Downdetector graphs indicating a steep spike in complaints around 7:00pm.

    Users on social media have also reported failed transactions and delays in fund transfers.

    The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which oversees UPI, is yet to issue a statement on what caused the disruption.
