Attention! Last chance for free Aadhaar updates ends September 14
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced September 14 as the final date for free Aadhaar detail updates. This deadline has been extended several times, with the most recent extension declared on June 14, pushing it forward by three months. Prior to this, extensions were granted on March 14 and December 15 last year. It remains uncertain whether UIDAI will grant another extension. Hence, Aadhaar holders are advised to update their details on time to avoid last-minute hassle.
How to update address online for free
Aadhaar card holders have the option to update their address online by providing valid Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents. This service is free of charge if the address has not been updated in the last 10 years. However, it is crucial for users to ensure that their mobile number linked with Aadhaar is active, as OTPs sent to this number are required for completing the login and update process.
Certain updates require visit to authorized centers
For updates like mobile number, photo, and name, users need to visit UIDAI-authorized centers. The process involves logging into the Aadhaar Self-Service Portal on UIDAI's official website using your Aadhaar number, Captcha, and an OTP sent to your registered phone number. After accessing the "Document Update" section to review existing details, users can select the document type from a list and upload scanned copies of original documents for verification.
UIDAI recommends updating Aadhaar every 10 years
While it's not mandatory, the UIDAI advices that users update their Aadhaar details every 10 years to ensure their information remains current. This is particularly important for address details. Keeping Aadhaar details updated helps avoid complications when accessing government schemes or services. Failure to update Aadhaar details might result in the loss of certain benefits tied to government schemes, which require accurate beneficiary information.
