Uber launches new service with extra room for your luggage
Uber has launched a new service, UberXXL, for airport transfers. The feature, which is an upgrade to the current UberXL option, provides vehicles with additional trunk space to fit larger families and their bags. It has been rolled out at more than 60 airports around the world and is expected to grow further in the future.
Pricing and position in the service lineup
Uber has placed UberXXL's pricing between UberXL and Uber Black. This new offering comes a step below Uber Shuttle, a charter-style offering introduced in New York last month. The latter lets users book up to five seats for airport trips at discounted rates, with protection against surge pricing.
New Uber widget and flight capture feature
Along with the new service, Uber has also launched a widget to request rides to frequently visited places from the home screen of your iPhone. Another feature, Flight Capture, is now available when you use Uber Reserve for prescheduled airport rides. It lets you enter flight details and get suggested departure times, adjust for flight delays, and plan multiple stops on the way.
Expansion of UberX Share rides
Uber is also expanding its UberX Share service, which provides discounted rates for sharing a ride with another passenger, to select airports. If no matching passenger is found within five minutes of requesting a ride, Uber lets the user travel solo while still enjoying discount.
