Service details
How 'Uber for Teens' works
The 'Uber for Teens' service lets parents and guardians create accounts for their wards. This way, the teens can request rides directly from their own devices.
The service comes with facilities like live trip tracking and opt-in audio recording.
Also, the guardians can book rides for the teenagers and set monthly trip limits to control their usage.
Payment options
Payment and group ride policies
For the 'Uber for Teens' service, guardians in India will have to add a credit or debit card to their account.
This is the first step to invite a teenager into their family profile.
Once cards are added, both guardians and teens can book rides using any payment method, including cash.
As Uber's support page notes, the teens can also bring along riders aged between 13-17 with them on their rides.
Growth plans
Expansion strategy in India
The introduction of 'Uber for Teens' in India comes almost two years after its introduction in the US and Canada.
The move also comes as part of Uber's plan to strengthen its foothold in the country and take on local rivals like Ola, Rapido, Namma Yatri, and BluSmart.
As per Uber's Q4 results statement last month, the 'Uber for Teens' service is active in some 50 countries globally.
